Carsley left no doubt that he always wanted the job after passing the first two halves of his six-game test.Caretaker coach Castley has insisted it’s all about the players, saying they are good enough to lift the trophy after missing out on two recent Euro finals defeats.
England and Greece have both won their opening two matches and if Carsley’s men avoid the drop they will be favorites to win their Nations League group and the interim manager has been appointed to the permanent position. With the draw for the World Cup qualifiers set to take place in December, it’s clear the FA want Castley to succeed and get on with the job.
Carsley said “I try to play with this kind of team. We are really lucky with the players we have. We have some exciting players. It’s important to give them a level where they can do well. That’s what we’ve been trying to do in the last couple of games. The performance of the players has earned them the rewards they deserve. It’s not surprising given the quality we’ve had.”
