Spanish footballer found guilty of sexually assaulting woman in mascot costume

Celta Vigo’s former captain Hugo Mallo has been found guilty of sexually assaulting a woman who acted as the Espanyol mascot in the last moments before a La Liga match.

Mallo, then at Celta and now playing in Greece for Aris, announced he would appeal. Two Espanyol mascots were waiting at the players’ end to greet Celta’s players.

Judge Salvador Roig said that Malo had acted in his sexual manner and affected the victim’s sexual intimacy at the RCDE stadium in April 2019.The judge noted that Malo did not present an alternative explanation, such as accidentally touching the victim.

Mallo denied the allegation, saying he greeted players and mascots as usual and did not know the gender of the person in the suit broadcasting the game.  His actions were caught on camera and the greeting video was nothing unusual, he denied.

In a statement posted on Instagram, Mallo said he disagreed with the court’s ruling and denied the charges. His post included a video of the two teams shaking hands and it’s reach the two mascots.

“At the end of the greeting,I want to emphasize the verdict, which noted that the plea to the court is strong that the hand touched the camel when he turned towards the middle of the ring. He did not touch the waist or the chest at all,” he argued.
