Ten Hag confident in Rashford after Manchester United problems

Erik ten Hag says Marcus Rashford is benefiting from a better attitude and more professionalism after problems on and off the pitch last season.

Rashford scored three times in two games for Manchester United against Southampton and Barsley last weekend. He had a tough last season but persevered, scoring nine goals in 50 appearances for club and country and was not selected for the European Championship squad.Rashford was disciplined by the Ten Hag after reporting unwell to training at a Belfast nightclub in the early hours.

“Maybe he needs help, for example by supporting him. At the end of the day, he has to do it himself. His true life  correct training attitude. He must have an attitude that suits him. When it comes to his professionalism, he’s a classy player and he’ll be able to perform, as every player knows.Because when your lifestyle isn’t right, you can’t perform.

Gareth Southgate did not select Rashford in England’s 33-man Euro 2024 preliminary squad, claiming he had better seasons than any other player.Ten Hag wasn’t surprised by the forward’s reaction.

“Marcus Rashford has also happened. He knows how to attack when things go wrong and how to set up his career. He knows what he’s capable of. He’s controlled and bounced back. He’s had a good start to the season and he needs to keep improving,” he said.

Rashford’s progress and the likes of Mason Mount and Rasmus Højlund have boosted Crystal Palace ahead of the Ten Hag’s Saturday evening clash, while new signing Manuel Ugarte has shown promise in his first two games.

“He knows the club, the team, the style of the game, the rules, the rules, the teammates, and especially with his profile, we are in the process of knowing what he can contribute. When he completes the process, he will be a very good player for us,” Ten Hag Ugarte said.
